CAF Red Tail Squadron remembers the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

During a turning point in American history, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the voice of a movement that touched the entire country, and the world. Millions have respected his life’s work and been inspired to emulate his tireless efforts to advance the just cause of civil rights.

His messages resonated beyond color lines, as much today as ever. He fought for a freedom that affects us all regardless of race or creed. This freedom allows us the ability to choose what it is that we want to create, believe and achieve. It is one of the greatest liberties we have. His sacrifice and legacy shall never be lost on any future generation, as illustrated by today’s national holiday marking his birth.

And today, the CAF Red Tail Squadron honors that legacy and continues its work to reach and inspire future generations, across all divisions, to RISE ABOVE.

Our mission is to share with everyone the inspiring legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first black military pilots and their support crews. Their strength, courage and ability to triumph over adversity during WWII can serve to inspire others about how to succeed today.

An important part of our work revolves around providing educational resources and innovative ideas for teachers so their students can become motivated by these heroes and role models to accomplish more than they ever thought possible.

Educational outreach is a major component of our work, which also includes the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit and participation in events and air shows across the nation. With each stop on our tours, we have the opportunity to inspire and educate a new audience. With each teacher that implements our materials into their lesson plans, a student has the chance to dream a little bigger and perhaps blossom into a leader for change.

On this holiday, we remember the vision of freedom Dr. King had for this country, and hopefully we all will never stop dreaming.
