About:

In June 2017, members of the Oberlin, Ohio community unveiled a monument to honor the nine residents of their town that served as Tuskegee Airmen in World War II. They were James Cannon, Gilbert Cargill, William A. Johnson Sr., Norman E. Proctor, Wayman E. Scott, Ferrier H. White, William L. Williams Jr., William Young and Perry H. Young Jr.

The memorial was presented to the public during the town’s Juneteenth celebration, a national annual event that marks the final freedom of slaves in Texas, two and half years after slavery was officially ended by President Lincoln.
