Through the restoration of the P-51C Mustang christened “Tuskegee Airmen” and the development of the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit, the CAF Red Tail Squadron is doing just what founder Don Hinz had dreamed the Squadron could do – “Inspire youth and tell the story of the Tuskegee Airmen all across America.”

Now, to continue our objective of carrying the lessons and legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen into every American classroom, we have developed the  “RISE ABOVE Resource Kit.” This resource kit is filled with resources for educators and other youth leaders that will help young people learn about the Tuskegee Airmen, American history, science and aviation. It is available for $110 – over a $280 value!

Director of Career and Technical Education “]I would like to express my thanks on behalf of the students and staff of the Aldine School District for allowing the CAF Red Tail Squadron and RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit to visit our district. Wow! What an outstanding presentation. Your presentation captured the movement and feeling of that era. The students walked away with a sense of pride and encouraged to set their goals high.[/testimonial][testimonial client=”Nathaniel Smith – Mobile County Public Schools “]The feedback from the teachers regarding the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit has been 100% positive; and I still see students wearing their Rise Above dog tags in the schools that I have visited since the exhibit stopped in Mobile. I know that the students of Mobile County have been inspired and enriched with more knowledge by this experience.[/testimonial][testimonial client=”Nancy Erkman – Grade 6 ELA WMS “]My grade 6 class from Wiscasset Middle School in Wiscasset, Maine, tremendously enjoyed the Tuskegee Airmen Show and were thrilled to see the five WWII planes. It will be a strong foundation for them as they study American history and they will be able to refer back to this as an example of American pride. They really enjoyed receiving the dog tags and we made inspirational posters for our halls using the motivational phrases. I have attached two pictures of students showing off these great posters. I thought maybe you would enjoy seeing this and know that you have made a strong impact on this group of middle schoolers. I just wanted to thank you again and we are hoping that you return to Wiscasset in the future. [/testimonial][/testimonial_set]

The CAF Red Tail Squadron would like to invite your students to participate in honoring the Tuskegee Airmen’s legacy by celebrating African-American heroism, an end to segregation in the military, and examining how the lessons of the past apply to issues of war, peace, patriotism, dissent, and social justice in the United States today.

Your students are challenged to write a poem, rap and song, or letter to the editor about the Tuskegee Airmen, using the 6 RISE ABOVE principles.

1-aim-highAIM HIGH: The young men who would become the Tuskegee Airmen dreamed of flying. No one else believed they could. But they made their dreams come true by working hard. By aiming high,
we can achieve more.

2-believeBELIEVE IN YOURSELF: The Tuskegee Airmen lived in a time when people were often judged by their skin
color and not their abilities. However, by believing in their own abilities and working hard, the
black Airmen became heroes. Self-confidence is always a key to success.

5-brainUSE YOUR BRAIN: Your brain is like a muscle.
Stop using it, and it gets weak. The Tuskegee Airmen put their minds to work and became American legends. By using our brains we can realize our potential.

4-never-quitNEVER QUIT: Be persistent. Be patient. Never ever quit. Make a little progress every day. After years of nobody believing in them, the Tuskegee Airmen earned
a reputation for being the best.
And it didn’t happen overnight.

3-readyBE READY TO GO: When the Airmen were called on
to defend their country, they had been training for many months and were ready to go. Every day is your chance to be a little smarter, a little stronger.

6-winEXPECT TO WIN: If you don’t believe great things will happen, then they never will. When the Airmen returned from war to everyday life, they faced many challenges. However, they knew they could handle them. And they did.

[testimonial_set] [testimonial client=”Proud teacher and COL in the CAF – Amanda L. Terry “]Just wanted to let you guys know – I am a middle school teacher of special needs students in George West Texas. I gave one of your dog tags to each student in my class this year – It is our class motto – We talked about what the words mean and I asked if anyone had ever told them they couldn’t do something – of course, all replied yes (most have learning disabilities that affect how they learn and are multiple grade levels behind their peers) – So we talked a little about the Tuskegee Airmen and the war and what they did to defy the odds. It was a great mini-lesson that I can carry throughout my year because they have their dog tags and they wear them with pride – It was a perfect AHA moment for those kids – to see that there are others out there believing and doing the same things we are in this classroom. Thanks for the opportunity to share your story and message through your dog tags – I wear mine with pride, too! [/testimonial] [testimonial client=”Franklin Higgins –
