



The CAF Red Tail Squadron counts on the efforts of volunteers to help bring the story of the Tuskegee Airmen to people across America. We are always looking for volunteer help in the following areas:
1. At each airshow at which the Mustang makes an appearance-
What volunteers do during their shifts:
• Help with site set up each day and site take down when the show is over
• Stay with the Mustang between flights to greet visitors, answer questions and sell merchandise
• Chock the Mustang between flights so it doesn’t roll; help with the airplane as directed
Why do it?
• Get a great view of the Mustang in action during its flights
• Meet a lot of interesting people, especially kids who think the red tail is pretty cool
• Hang out with the pilot and crew who are fun folks
2. At each venue where the RISE ABOVE mobile exhibit sets up-
What volunteers do during their shifts:
• Help direct visitors into and out of the exhibit
• Hand out take-away materials and answer questions
• Staff the small merchandise sale area
Why do it?
• Meet a lot of interesting people, especially students
• Spend time outside in the fresh air
3. Maintain the Mustang-
What volunteers do during their shifts (this volunteer opportunity requires strong mechanical knowledge and ability, along with a willingness to be on call):
• Work on the Mustang as directed by the Mustang maintenance Crew Chief
Why do it?
• Get your hands dirty while working on a piece of WWII history
• Know that you are truly appreciated for volunteering your mechanical expertise
4. Other events the Project sponsors such as fundraising dinners-
What volunteers do during the event:
• Help with prep the week prior to the event
• At then event, greet guests and mingle
• Answer questions
• Help with silent auction or other fundraising
initiative related to event
• Help seat guests
Why do it?
• It’s a lot of fun and you work with good people
• Chance to meet a Tuskegee Airman (when available)
• Become a volunteer and have fun supporting the Project’s mission
of educating people about the Tuskegee Airmen!
